So where did SerenOT come from?

I graduated with my Occupational Therapy degree in 2006. I had my first job in the NHS in Bridgend before moving to a post in Cardiff. I then gained a job in the Children’s Disability Team in Newport Social Services in 2008.

I discovered an Occupational Therapy Associate role locally to me in Bridgend and started to complete some independent Occupational Therapy work on a self employed basis, alongside my work in Social Services.

After the birth of my second son, I decided to leave Social Services and work wholly as an Associate Occupational Therapist. I mainly completed housing assessments for adults within local Housing Association properties, but I also held a small caseload of children in schools for a Local Authority, acted as Treating Therapist for a few children and completed some medicolegal Care Needs Assessments.

Working as an Associate OT is great, but I decided that I wanted to take more ownership over the services that I am able to provide, the clients I work with, the fees that are charged, etc. Therefore, in April 2019, SerenOT began. I currently complete my Associate work alongside.

With two children who love rainbows and stars, and living and working in Wales, we decided that enfys or seren would work well as part of the business name. Seren was chosen purely as it is easier to spell!

So there we go…I now have my own business which I am looking to develop gradually, supporting children and young people from 0-25 in Wales and the surrounding areas.

There are a huge host of services that I am able to provide and I will discuss these and my training in more detail in future posts.
